At Reeves Insulation we know the benefits of a properly insulated home go beyond interior comfort, but energy savings as well. When your home is properly insulated, it uses less energy. Using less energy saves you money and reduces your carbon footprint.

The best way to make your home energy efficient is to have proper insulation. That’s where we come in. Reeves Insulation has over 30 years of expertise in home and office building insulation. We’ll help you decide what kind of insulation is best for you.

Here are a few tips to help make your home more energy efficient.

1. Wash your Laundry in Cold Water Helps with Energy Savings.

Doing laundry? If you can, run your washing machine with cold water. Cold water doesn’t require as much energy as hot does. Do you already separate your loads based on color? Maybe start separating them based on whether they can be washed in cold water or need to be washed in hot.

2. Only run a full Dryer for Optimal Energy Savings.

Make sure you are filling the dryer with a full load of laundry every time you run it. If the dryer isn’t full, the extra hot air goes to waste. You could also consider line drying every once and awhile.

3. Turn down the Temperature of your hot water Heater.

You might not even notice the difference. We recommend setting it at about 130° or 120° Fahrenheit. You can also wrap your water heater tank in a special blanket to keep in insulated, which is a little know energy savings pro tip.

4. Skip the oven.

It takes a lot of energy to heat up an oven. In the summer using the oven makes the air conditioner to work even harder to keep the house cool. Instead of using the oven, use countertop appliances like a toaster oven or microwave. These appliances use less energy and don’t give off as much excess heat.

5. Let your dishes air dry as an energy savings “hack”

Your dishwasher uses a lot of energy when it heat dries your dishes. If heat drying your dishes is unnecessary, unload the dishwasher before the drying stage and let your dishes dry on the counter.

6. Use a smart thermostat or take advantage of your thermostats programmable settings.

This convenient technology makes it easier for you to give your heat and air conditioning units a break when you are not at home.

7. Check your windows.

Are the windows of your home properly insulated? Make sure your windows aren’t compromising the interior temperature of your home. Don’t forget to use windows shades to close the sun out in the summer and let the sunshine in during the winter.
